“When I was four, I had a little painted turtle. I didn’t know if it was a boy or a girl, so I called it SamSusie. Sadly, SamSusie ran away, but I have such a tender memory of that silly little turtle. This sculpture is inspired by that memory—this time, I know it’s a boy! Meet Angus, the painted turtle, basking in the sun as he emerges from the water onto the rugged rocks of the Canadian Shield. Each detail, from his vibrant markings and reptilian legs to the smooth shell and aged rock, was sculpted to bring this cherished memory to life.”
